Battlefield to Bedside: Bringing Precision Medicine to Surgical Care

The evolution of battlefield critical care has not only led to improved survival of combat casualties, but has also translated into valuable knowledge, changes in practice, and clinical tools that can benefit the civilian healthcare system. This observation is grounded in a rich tradition launched by the late Dr Edward "Pete" Churchill. A surgeon, an officer, and innovator, Dr Churchill's vision accelerated the development and deployment of a myriad of lifesaving medical advances in important areas, such as wound care, surgical techniques, and medical evacuation.
