Abstract Background Ramadan is a month within the Islamic lunar calendar when Muslims are required to fast (abstain from food and drink) during the daytime (from sunrise to sunset) for the entire month. Due to the established connection between fasting and dehydration and acute sialadenitis, the aim of this study is to determine if there is a higher frequency of sialadenitis among the Muslim population during Ramadan than during...

Abstract Purpose of Review The purpose of this review is to summarize the role of avoidance behavior in headache-related disability and overview relevant clinical implications. Recent Findings Avoidance occupies a central role in contemporary psychological perspectives on headache disorders and other chronic pain conditions. Several cognitive...
Abstract Purpose of Review Primary headaches are less common and differ in presentation in older versus younger individuals. Secondary headaches become more common among older patients. Recent Findings Diagnosis and management of headaches in those > 65 years are discussed. Migraine and tension-type headaches are rarely new onset in...
Abstract Purpose of Review Intracranial dermoid cysts are benign, rare mass-occupying lesions of the central nervous system arising from the neuroectodermal cell lines. While rupture of intracranial dermoid cysts is rare, it can present with a variety of clinical manifestations. To explore the headache manifestations among patients with ruptured intracranial dermoid cysts. To our knowledge, limited studies focusing on headache...
Abstract Purpose of Review The purpose of this review is to discuss the current evidence for acupuncture in migraine and to provide insight into which patients may benefit most from acupuncture. Recent Findings Multiple studies support acupuncture as a validated modality for the prevention of episodic migraine. While small studies on...

Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16411-5Mutations in the TRPV4 channel cause inherited neurodegeneration syndromes, but the molecular mechanisms are unknown. Here the authors reveal that TRPV4 activation causes dose-dependent, CaMKII-mediated neuronal dysfunction and axonal degeneration via disruption of mitochondrial axonal transport.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16670-2Here, the authors sample air and surfaces in hospital rooms of COVID-19 patients, detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA in air samples of two of three tested airborne infection isolation rooms, and find surface contamination in 66.7% of tested rooms during the first week of illness and 20% beyond the first week of illness.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16354-xLocal activity of the DNA methylation machinery remains poorly understood. Here, the authors present a theoretical and experimental framework to infer methylation and demethylation rates at genome scale in mouse embryonic stem cells, finding that maintenance methylation activity is reduced at transcription factor binding sites, while methylation turnover is elevated in transcribed gene bodies.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16434-yMultiple myeloma is characterised by frequent gene fusions. Here, the authors use data from the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation CoMMpass Study to further investigate fusion genes in this disease and their clinical relevance.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16500-5Self-sufficient cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, which contain all redox partners in a single polypeptide chain, are of interest for biotechnological applications. Here, the authors present the crystal structure of full-length Thermobispora bispora CYP116B46 and discuss the potential electron transfer pathway.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16013-1Analysing the space-time metric of quantum phenomena is complicated by the absence of a consistent theory of quantum gravity. Here, the authors show how to describe the space-time metric for multiple observers who are keeping time with quantum clocks, which interact gravitationally with each other.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16142-7Defects in homologous recombination (HR) are found in some triple negative breast cancers, suggesting they may be sensitive to PARP inhibitors. In this phase II clinical trial of the PARP inhibitor rucaparib, changes in Ki67 levels did not correlate with markers of HR deficiency but HR deficiency was detected in 69% of tumours, indicating that PARP inhibitors may be a useful treatment.
Nature Communications, Published online: 29 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41467-020-16395-2The ubiquitin-like modifier ISG15 exerts post-translational protein regulation through ISGylation. Here, the authors show that ISGylation is necessary for pancreatic cancer stem cell self-renewal and tumourigenesis by supporting the recycling of non-functional mitochondria.
